This morning session is a part of The Workshop Experience @ Taconic Ridge Farm. Learn the ancient art of natural dyeing from start to finish. We will use locally grown and foraged materials as well as ethically sourced dye material from Oaxaca, MX to dye a linen table runner. A 2 hr workshop for all ages and skill levels, kids 6+ are encouraged to join.

Unlock the alchemy of plants in this comprehensive introductory intensive. If you have ever wanted to understand the full "start-to-finish" process of natural dyeing, this workshop is your foundation. We will demystify the science of the dye vat, moving through the essential stages of fiber preparation, scouring, and mordanting to ensure washfast colors.

Through hands-on practice, you will learn how to extract pigments from local and traditional sources, experiment with different modifiers to shift colors, and leave with a complete set of 25 dyed color samples on cotton, wool & silk using 5 dye materials and a variety of mordants and color shifting additives.

Step into the rhythmic, ancient practice of Indigo dyeing during a morning session. For this special community gathering, our vats will be infused with Indigofera suffruticosa, sourced directly from traditional artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico. Unlike other botanical dyes, Indigo is a living, breathing vat that requires no mordant and a unique "dip and oxidize" process to reveal its depth. We will discuss the entire process of creating and maintaining an organic indigo vat. Bring something from your wardrobe to dye a vibrant blue.

Wally Farms is a farming initiative & an experimental farming incubator. Fostering a collective of passionate farmers who are empowered to develop sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices. They believe in the power of technology and actionable steps to protect our climate. The farm & forest is located on the native homelands of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican People.


This class is a deep dive all about dyeing with Organic Indigo. A deep blue pigment derived from a green shrub plant. We will be using ‘Indigofera’ or Mexican Indigo to create an organic bath & our home grown Japanese Indigo in fresh leaf form.

We will go through the entire process, from growing the leaves to dyeing your own unique fabric pieces. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dyer, this workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the art of natural dyeing in a serene farm setting.

Organic Indigo 101

This class is all about dyeing with Organic Indigo. A deep blue pigment derived from a green shrub plant, we will be using ‘Indigofera’ or Mexican Indigo. Learn how to make the bath with all naturally derived materials and create a full range of brilliant blue tones.

We will practice the art of shibori ( aka tie dye) to create patterns on cloth using string and other binding materials. Bring a natural fiber garment from your closet to dye on the day of the class and leave with a new indigo creation & knowlegde to recreate the process at home.
